How to Disassemble & Reassemble Your P365 (Beginner's Guide)

If you're new to the P365, field stripping it for the first time can feel more complicated than it really is. The good news: once you know the sequence, it is quick and straightforward. This guide focuses only on taking the pistol apart for routine maintenance and putting it back together.
If you want the actual wipe-down, lubrication points, and maintenance tips, use the companion cleaning & lubrication guide.
Part 1: Safety First
Make sure your P365 is not loaded with live ammunition. Yes, it's obvious — but people sometimes forget and end up shooting something by accident.
Step 1. Take out the magazine by pressing the magazine release and let it slide out. If gravity doesn't do the work for you, pull the magazine down.
Step 2. With the magazine out, locate the slide catch lever and press it upward with your dominant-hand thumb.

Step 3. With your support hand, pull the slide all the way back while holding the slide catch lever until it locks in the open position and you can see the chamber.
If you can't pull the slide all the way back while holding the slide catch lever — this happens a lot to new shooters — there are two tricks.
First: leave the empty magazine in the frame. Now you don't have to press the slide catch lever yourself; the slide will lock back on the empty magazine automatically once you pull it all the way back.
Second: use work or garden gloves to increase grip, especially if you have sweaty palms.
Step 4. Visually and physically check the chamber and make sure it's empty. If the magazine has no rounds in it and the chamber is empty, it's safe to proceed with disassembly.

Part 2: Disassembly (Field Strip)
Step 5. Now we can take the slide off. From the locked-back position, rotate the takedown lever clockwise until it stops.
Step 6. Pull the slide slightly rearward to disengage the slide catch lever, then guide it forward off the frame. It only takes a tiny movement to the rear.
Step 7. Remove the recoil spring guide assembly. Push it forward slightly to release it from the barrel lug, then lift it out.
Step 8. Take out the barrel. This is as far as you need to go for routine field stripping.
Part 3: Reassembly
Step 9. Put the barrel back into the slide.
Step 10. Reinstall the recoil spring guide assembly and make sure the guide head is centered on the barrel lug.
Step 11. Guide the slide onto the frame rails and pull it fully to the rear until the slide catch lever locks it open. If the takedown lever pops back toward its normal position while you're locking the slide open, that's normal. Just make sure it ends fully counter-clockwise before you release the slide.
Step 12. If the takedown lever remaind in "open" position, rotate it counter-clockwise until it stops.

Step 13. Check function.

That's it — with a little practice, the whole field strip takes under a minute. Once you're done here, follow the companion cleaning & lubrication guide for the actual maintenance work.
